Eugenia Helms Obituary

Eugenia Faye Ross Helms, age 90, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on the evening of August 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on February 26, 1935, in Monroe, North Carolina, Faye grew up in the small town of Marshville. On January 6, 1951, she married James A. Helms (Dickie Boy) of Wingate, North Carolina. Following their marriage, James served in the United States Army, completing two tours in Germany and serving during the Korean conflict. After his retirement from the Army, they settled in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, where they built a life together until his passing in 2005. Faye was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She lovingly cared for her husband for many years through his illnesses until he passed. In the later years of her life, she was tenderly cared for by her daughters Joyce and Gloria, who had been living together for several years to care for her during her battle with dementia, while her great-grandson Brooks kept her well entertained. Her care was greatly enriched by her granddaughter Tiffany of Atlanta, Georgia, who traveled often to be by her side, along with special family friends Michael Bobo and Sherrill Moore, whose love and support meant so much to her, along with the exceptional care she received from her hospice nurse, Savannah Chestnut. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eugenia Frances Longino; her father, Albert Cray Ross; her husband, James A. Helms (Dickie Boy); her brothers, Novie Olin Ross, Jerry Ivan Ross, Elon F. Ross, and Henry F. Ross; and her grandson, Joshua Wilson. Faye is survived by her three daughters: Sue Lovas of Bradenton, Florida; Gloria Wilson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Joyce Helms of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ian Phifer, Tiffany Caldwell, Chastity Neeves, Felicia Wilson, and Natalie Salgado; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; loving nieces and nephews whom she adored; along with many extended family members and friends who were blessed by her presence. Those who knew Faye will remember her for her gentle spirit, warm heart, fierce loyalty, and deep devotion to those she loved. A woman of quiet resilience and deep faith, she leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and perseverance that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Services and burial will take place on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Marshville Cemetery, Marshville, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the non-profit organization SCNEEDSHELP, which assists locals in need. Faye loved to help everyone, and supporting this cause would honor her generous spirit. Visit scneedshelp.org to donate.
