Ernest George Obituary

Ernest Leonard "Ernie" George, 77, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2025, after a courageous-and occasionally stubborn-battle with cancer. Born on October 30, 1947, in South Charleston, WV, to the late Leonard and Garnet (Plantz) George. Ernie was preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn George Minor. A graduate of South Charleston High School's Class of '66 and West Virginia State University, Ernie went on to serve proudly in the United States Navy. He later enjoyed a long career with Walker Machinery in Belle, WV. He was also a longtime Boy Scout leader, a part-time college instructor, and a trusted mentor to many, inspiring others with his guidance and generosity. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice Hubbard George; sons Eric (Jodi) George of Charleston, SC, and Jason (Melanie) George of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter Sarah Moniz of Myrtle Beach, SC; and grandchildren Phoebe, Kaia (father Daniel Moniz), Braxton, Lexson, and Lemmie. Ernie was a loyal friend, a devoted family man, and someone who loved to see his children and grandchildren succeed. His mischievous humor and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Details of a Celebration of Life in WV will be announced in the coming weeks.
