Doris Roberts Obituary

Doris Estelle Atkinson Roberts, age 87, peacefully passed from the Conway Medical Center into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on Friday, May 30, 2025. Preceding her in death are her parents, Roland Eugene and Nancy Elizabeth (Rabon) Atkinson; her brother, Edgar Glenn Atkinson; and a beloved son, Robin Brett Roberts. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 67 years, James Windell Roberts; daughter Wendolyn "Wendi" Roberts Gregg and husband Robin; daughter-in-law Leanne Ennis Roberts; granddaughter Elizabeth "Betsi" Franklyn Hoffman and husband Timothy; and great-grandsons Brett Edward Freeman and Bryce James Freeman. Doris was born on October 5, 1937 in Horry County, SC, and later attended Conway High School. In 1955 she met the love of her life, Windell, and they married on November 9, 1957. They moved to Charleston, SC, where they lived for 43 years. In Charleston, Doris was a homemaker and also worked part-time at Piggly-Wiggly where she was known for her exceptional cake decorating. After retiring, she and Windell moved back to Conway in 2000 to be closer to family. Doris was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church and active in her Sunday school class. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and reading. She also enjoyed spending time at their camper in Asheville, NC. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 10am to 11am at Jamestown Baptist Church in Conway, SC. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 11am at Jamestown Baptist Church with Rev. Jamey Collins and Rev. Robbin King officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Mount Hermon Baptist Church cemetery in Galivants Ferry, SC.
