David Fleischmann Obituary
David Roy Fleischmann, Sr., a beacon of light to his beloved family and community, departed from this life on May 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, education, and indomitable spirit. Born in Bay City, Michigan, on June 14, 1956, David's journey led him across the country, ultimately finding serenity in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he took his final steps in life.
David was an esteemed educator, shaping young minds as a teacher and administrator. His passion for teaching was evident to all who entered his classroom. His tenure with Guilford County from 1994 to 2003 was marked by innovation and care for his students. As a lecturer and student supervisor at UNC from 2003 to 2006, he influenced the next generation of educators with his wisdom and dedication. From 2006 until his retirement in 2022, David served as a teacher and principal at Kannapolis Elementary School, cementing his reputation as a pillar in the field of education.
A man of many pleasures, David found joy in playing the piano, allowing the notes to express the depth of his emotions. The beach was his refuge, where he walked for hours alongside his life partner of 21 years, Glenn Roof, savoring the embrace of sun, sand, and surf. His days overflowed with laughter, filled with the company of his beloved dog, Chester, and the playful antics of his grandchildren. David's commitment to family shone brightest through his profound involvement in the lives of his children and grandchildren, nurturing their growth with an unwavering passion reminiscent of the gentle guidance he offered his students.
As a devoted Detroit Lions fan, David's loyalty to his team was unshakeable. No matter the season or his residence, he could be found clad in Honolulu blue, cheering with a fervor that captured his eternal optimism-even in the face of the team's storied challenges.
David is remembered by his loving partner, Glenn Roof, and his children, Deanna (Steve) Clarke, Carolyn Michels, Randy Wents, Damian Fleischmann, Kyle (Nichole) Fleischmann, David (Brittany) Fleischmann II, and Colleen Fleischmann. He leaves behind a legacy of 17 cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Frank Fleischmann and Lori (Brian) Clark, alongside a host of loving nieces and nephews who will all miss his heartfelt laughter and thoughtful presence.
Predeceased by his parents, Ruby Marie (nee: Rious) and Roy Alfred Fleischmann, and his dear friend Tim Berlew, David's absence is a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
Above all, David's memory will be cherished as that of a funny, thoughtful, and optimistic man, whose intense love for his family was matched only by his commitment to education and his students enduring spirit as a true Lions fan. His impact on the world is indelible, and though he may have departed, the joy and wisdom he shared will continue to resonate within the hearts of those he touched.
