David Black Obituary

David C. Black, born March 26, 1944, of Little River, South Carolina passed from his earthly home on Friday, August 8, 2025. David is survived by his wife of 60 years, Brenda Sue Painter Black and two sons and their spouses D. Courtney Black (Lauri) of Hawthorne, FL and Patrick A. Black (Leah) of Eastover, NC. He is also survived by two granddaughters Emma Murry (Luke) and Sarah Black as well as siblings Joan Henthorne of Ripley, WV and Cindy Gatrell Reynolds (Patrick) of Mansfield, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by brothers Don Black and Jimmy Gatrell, Mother Mabel Mildred Gatrell and Father Eugene David Black. David was a native West Virginian growing up in Parsons, WV and then completing his high school career at Ripley High School where he met his wife, Sue. He later completed an Associate Degree in Business Administration at Marshall University. He and Sue returned to Ripley, WV to raise a family and become active community members. David spent most of his adult life in sales (including insurance, office supplies, and tractor trailer truck wind diverters). He and Sue have been active members of the United Methodist Churches where they have lived in Ripley and Morgantown, WV, Eastover, NC and Little River, SC. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to your church or your favorite charity in David's name. Cremation Services Direct (843-651-1194) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is assisting the family with the arrangements.
