Conway, SCDavid Roy Csokmay, 59, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Conway Medical Center following a brief onset illness.
Originally born in Ohio on January 22, 1966, he grew up in Woburn, MA with his parents, the late Maureen White and John Csokmay. He would go back to Ohio often and spent many wonderful summers during his boyhood years in Ohio with his Aunt Pat and Uncle Joe who were his second parents.
As a CDL A truck driver, Dave always had a special passion for vintage cars and trucks from the 60's and 70's, especially Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury. His fondness was for those less popular big ones, passing over the muscle cars with barely a glance. Over the years, his collection of vintage toy cars and memorabilia grew enormous while he was constantly on the search for his next life-sized old gem of a car that was in need of rescue. As he made his deliveries, he got to know where every old beauty was hiding and could answer any question you could possibly ask about her specs. His favorite was his latest 69 Mercury Marquis WUUF. She came from the Carolinas and has finally come back to the South where she can escape the harsh winters of New England.
Dave spent the last 24 years in Salem, NH where he was so proud of his home on Millville Lake. When his son Joe was growing up, Dave would pick him up in his 18-wheeler and they spent many weekends together laughing, swimming, going to car shows, boating, watching videos and socializing with friends and neighbors on the lake. Dave was at all of Joe's sports games even though he didn't know the difference between a touch down and a home run. He was always there to give a ride, some advice or just some love and support. He showed Joe what was most important in life.
He married his soul mate and true companion, Christine in 2013. From the first moment, they were inseparable. They could always be found at the Salem house dreaming up and working on some new indoor or outdoor home improvement project. In their spare time, they loved camping, boating and exploring together. While not a true outdoorsman, he would accompany her on hikes in the mountains and she would search for car shows they could attend together. Some of the best times were spent talking and laughing on one of their many road trips to Ohio, Florida or other camping destinations.
Just recently, Dave and Christine moved to
Conway, SC finally fulfilling their dream of moving to a warmer, sunnier, and slower paced lifestyle. He was so happy and excited to be in Conway where he felt immediately at home. He finally got the garage he always wanted, and in the short time he was here, had the opportunity to meet some wonderful neighbors and enjoy some real southern hospitality.
We will always remember Dave for his easy smile, great laugh, incredible sense of humor, and huge heart.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, his older brother John Jr, uncle Joseph Prizzi, aunt Violet Lepa and uncle Edward Lepa. He leaves behind his true companion, Christine, who will be eternally grateful for the wonderful 12 years they spent together. He also leaves behind his son Joseph, stepsons Michael Wilkinson, James Wilkinson, aunt Priscilla Prizzi, sister-in-law Susan Zielinski and brother-in-law Michael Glazner.
