Charles Furman Christenson
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Charles "Chris" Furman Christenson announce his passing on August 1, 2025 at the age of 88 years. Chris was born in 1937 in Centerville, SC and graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1956. In 1963, Chris joined the United States Air Force. This took him and his family to many Air Force bases in the United States. He was very proud of his service and retired in 1987 as a Chief Master Sergeant. Chris then went to work as the maintenance supervisor of Socastee High School where he volunteered on the Chain crew for the football home games in his spare time. He was an active member of the booster club that helped build Socastee's football stadium and he was present for all of his children's games. He was a sports enthusiast and seldom missed any sporting events at the school. He retired from the school and moved to Lake Wateree where he lived on the lake fishing with his family, planting flowers, and working on his classic Bronco. Chris came back home to the beach in 2005 where he helped raise his growing family.
Chris is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary Haigler Christenson. They married 69 years ago after graduating from high school. Along with his beloved wife, Chris is survived by two sons, Andy (Michelle) Christenson and Sean Christenson, and a granddaughter, Carlie (Justin) Hilton, who he and Mary raised as their daughter; a daughter in law, Christie Christenson; seven grandchildren, Maelyn Rogers, Kade Christenson, Kammy Christenson, Patrick Christenson, Beth Christenson, Sage Christenson and Gage Christenson; and four great grandchildren, Bayleigh Stalvey-Grainger, Addyson Rogers, Camdyn Rogers and Brighton Hilton.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Bessie Christenson; three sisters, Alice Branham, Marjorie Peake, Lois Whittle; two brothers, Hayward Christenson and Hazel Christenson and one son, Mark Christenson.
