Carla Lowenstein Obituary

Conway, SC Mrs. Carla Grabert-Lowenstein, age 69, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Conway Medical Center from complications of Rapid Progressive Dementia (RPD). Born in Twin Falls, Idaho on the family farm, she had dreams beyond rural life. Carla received her B. A. in Political Science from the University of Idaho, took graduate courses at Willamette University in Oregon, and received her J. D. from Whittier College of Law in Los Angeles. After working for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office she was hired as Deputy District Attorney for the Kern County, California District Attorney's office in Bakersfield, California. Carla rose to Senior Deputy and won a number of high profile trials and appellant cases. She met the love of her life, Dr. Henry Lowenstein, and married in 2006. They traveled the world together and shared joy, happiness, love, and family.When Henry became Dean at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, she opened her own private law practice there, distinguishing herself with major precedent cases in state and federal trial, appeals courts, and state supreme court. Carla was a member of the bars in California, South Carolina, the District of Columbia, and the United States Supreme Court. She was an extraordinary, compassionate woman loved by many, both professionally and personally. Carla is survived by her husband, Dr. Henry Lowenstein of Conway, SC; her stepdaughters, Jennifer Koen of Austin, TX and Sarah Lowenstein of San Antonio, TX; and her grandchildren, Bailey and Vaughn Koen of Austin, TX. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Carla's memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (alzfdn.org) or to Tunnels to Towers Foundation (t2t.org) Please sign the online guest register at www.goldfinchfuneralhome.com Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel, is serving the Lowenstein family.
