Burnice Alston Obituary
Burnice Lee Alston was born to the late David Alston and Fannie Jones Alston of Wake County, NC on June 4th, 1934. He peacefully transitioned into eternal rest at home surrounded by his daughter, son in love, and granddaughters on Monday, November 3rd, 2025. Burnice was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 53 years Vernell Chestnut Alston of Myrtle Beach, SC, his four sisters; Anne Mae Hartsfield, Lucy Mae Alston, Elizabeth "EJ" Alston Tyler, Sophia Hodge, his five brothers; Jonny, Calvin, Ervin, James Howard, Claude Lee Alston, and brother-in-law Prince Bowens Jr.
Burnice proudly worked for the City of Myrtle Beach for over 30 years. He was known for being a selfless, God-fearing man, with a magnificent sense of humor. He was a loving father and grandfather who took great pride in protecting his family. Burnice was a stern and straightforward man who loved and trusted in God. Knowing that this day would surely come, he embraced Christ as his personal savior. He joined Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he attended faithfully until his health declined.
He leaves to cherish fond memories and a strong legacy: one daughter whom he truly adored, Deshana Alston (Reggie his "Son in love"), grandchildren; Laquavia Alston, Lakeitha Alston, Shaqueta Alston, Maliyah Sinclair, Jamaal Graham, Byron Graham, and James Chestnut; ten great grandchildren; two whom he adored and lived influential years with Rhiley and Amari Chestnut; seven great-great grandchildren, sister in law; Queen Bowens, nieces and nephews; Carol Ann Walker, Mackel Steven Hodge, Inonia Hodge-Bonner (Willie), Shirley Debnam, Greg Alston, Brenda Richardson, Wanda Alston, Diane Alston, George M. Hodge, Jr., Claude Alston, Jr., Colette Alston, Wanda Alston, Rhonda Alston, Kasheba Bowens, Kamarra Bowens, Jahsearie Bowens and Alexia Lewis. Trinette Young, Tamara Young John, Young.
His surrogate children; James Edward Chestnut (one surrogate son preceded him in death, Ray Anthony Chestnut), his special grandchildren; Raesaan Sinclair, NaQuon Brown, Sequoia Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that he held in his heart.
