Buddy Horton Obituary
LANCASTER, SC – Clyburn "Buddy" Odell Horton Jr., age 78, of Lancaster, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025. Born on January 9, 1947, he was the son of the late Clyburn "Bud" Odell Horton, Sr. and the late Mary Howard Horton.
For 55 years, Buddy was the beloved husband of Sharon Edwards Horton. He was a dedicated family man who loved spending time with his son, Shane Horton, and his wife, Catherine. He was a proud and supportive grandfather to his three grandchildren: Lilly, Brooks, and Gage Horton, and took great joy in watching their activities. A man of many passions, Buddy was a lifelong car enthusiast who also enjoyed trips to the Surfside Beach and Gatlinburg. He was an avid gardener who found peace in mowing his lawn and tending to his flowers. His musical tastes included Jimmy Buffett and the Oakridge Boys, and he was an avid follower of NASCAR and enjoyed fishing in Murrells Inlet.
Buddy dedicated 35 years of his career to Bowater, where he retired as the Facility Manager. He was also a man of deep faith, actively involved in Second Baptist Church. There, he served as an RA leader, sang in the choir, was a member of the building committee, and taught Sunday school. His commitment to his community extended to his membership in the Jackson Masonic Lodge #53. Buddy also proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
Buddy was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Greta Horton; his parents; his stepmother, Clyda Horton; and his two sisters, Mary Sue Bell and Joann Reynolds.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at Second Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM, officiated by Dr. David Carlton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the church. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Second Baptist Church, 1426 Great Falls Hwy., Lancaster, SC 29720.
