Brenda Bailey Obituary

Mrs. Brenda (Kay) Phillips Bailey age 84 of Kiutuestia Creek Rd. Blairsville, formerly of Hiawassee and Myrtle Beach, SC passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday September 4, 2025, following an extended illness. Mrs. Bailey was born on April 13, 1941, in Elkview, WV, the daughter of the late Glenvil M. Phillips and the late Elizabeth Brown Phillips. Brenda served as an early childhood educator for over thirty years, including 5 years as the Director of TLC (Teaching Learning Center of Ocean View Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach). She loved music and sang in church choirs in Parkersburg, WV, Ormond Beach, FL and Ocean View Baptist Church and First UMC in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was also active in local chorales performing with The Carolina Master Chorale of Myrtle Beach at Avery Fischer Hall in Lincoln Center, New York City. Later as a member of The Mountain Community Chorus in Young Harris, GA. After raising her sons and her husbands' death she also became a world traveler with several trips outside the US. She was a loving, loyal and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Donald Richard Bailey in 1991. Mrs. Bailey was a member of New Union Baptist Church and prior to that at Ocean View Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach, SC for 38 years. Surviving Mrs. Bailey are two sons and one daughter in law, Greg and Cindy Bailey of Blairsville, Rob Bailey of Greenville, SC, two sisters and one brother in law, Ann and Harry Campbell of Conway, SC, Sharon Medford of Williamsburg, VA, four grandchildren, Melissa and Andy Shimp, Rick Forlines, Kate Forlines and Will Bailey, two great grandchildren, Jackson and Bailey Lockwood, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive. A Celebration of Mrs. Bailey's life will be held on Saturday October 11, 2025 at 10:00 am at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, SC. Flowers are accepted or if you wish donations may be made to Globe Works International 1008 Mongomery Hwy Vestavia Hills, AL 30516 or the Alzheimer's Association-South Carolina Chapter, 123 West Antrim Drive, Greenville, SC 29607 in Mrs. Bailey's memory. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway, SC, where she will rest with her beloved husband Donald. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
