Bobby Taylor Obituary
Bobby Nathaniel Taylor, affectionately known as Bob, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, at his home in Myrtle Beach, SC, at the age of 89. He was born October 18, 1935, in Bear Grass, NC. He lived a life defined by his hard work, devotion to his family, generosity and his gentle heart.
Family and friends are invited to attend a joint memorial service for Bobby and Nancy Taylor (who passed on August 19th) that will be held at 4 pm on August 23, 2025, at Wilkerson Funeral Home 2100 East 5th St. Greenville, NC 27858.
He grew up and spent the vast majority of his life as a resident of Pitt County. Bobby served in the US Navy 1951 to 1955 and was assigned to the building of the runway at the Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during his service time. He received a Good Conduct Award and a National Defense Service Medal/Ribbon. Upon his Honorable Separation he returned to Greenville to live until 1969 when he moved to Ayden where he remained until relocating to Myrtle Beach in 2008.
Bobby worked for Greenville Utilities before being employed as a machinist at Union Carbide in Greenville. He worked there until being hired by Burroughs-Wellcome as machinist and ultimately a machinist supervisor. He was employed there from 1970 until his retirement in 1995. He also was a small business entrepreneur, founding Laid Back Bob's Quality PVC Furniture, which he later sold.
Bobby loved to design and build projects and constantly had a new project he was working on – from project coordinator Nancy's request list!! Aside from this, he loved to travel with his family, starting with camping in tents and moving to travel trailers and then a motorhome.
Bobby is survived by the love of his life, Nancy, his four children Frank Taylor (Jeannette) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Ed Taylor (Janie) of Greensboro, NC, Teresa Taylor of Grimesland, NC and Tyrone Taylor (Shirley) of Surfside Beach, SC. His grandchildren are Daron (Crystal) Taylor, Jessica (Chris) Cappel, Shannon (Denis) Byrd, Nathan (Allanna) Taylor, Laural Morgan, Harley Crisp, Dillon Taylor, Michael (Tricia) White and the late Wesley Taylor. Additionally, he has 9 great-grandchildren.
