Billy Thompkins Obituary

Myrtle Beach. Billy Joe Thompkins, age 72, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 5, 2025 surrounded by family. Mr. Thompkins was born in Conway, the oldest son of the late Joseph Alfred and Mary Drew Thompkins. He was a lifelong member of Ridgefield Baptist Church. Billy loved the Lord and spent many Friday nights singing in local nursing centers. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Grove Manufacturing in Conway and was later a plumber. Mr. Thompkins had many passions in his life. You could often find him with a cold Pepsi in one hand and a honey bun in the other. He loved flowers and trees. He spent much of his time outside working in his flowers. You can still see the many tress that he planted along Highway 90. He also loved the Waffle House where the staff became like family. He was an avid fisherman and spent many days in the creeks off the Waccamaw River. Memorial days were spent fishing and eating pecan swirls. Billy was an artist and loved working with wood, turning many scraps into art. What he loved the most, however, was his family, which he took great pride in. Surviving are: his wife, Shirley A. Thompkins of Myrtle Beach; one son, B.J. Thompkins (Jennifer) of Conway; one daughter, Tammy Moulden (Kevin) of Myrtle Beach; six grandchildren, Ethan Moulden (Lauren) of Winson Salem, NC, Jacob Moulden (Alyssa) and Caleb Moulden of Myrtle Beach, Trent Thompkins of Conway, Emily Moulden and Abbey Moulden, of Myrtle Beach; one great grandchild, Ryder Lee Moulden; two brothers, Sidney Thompkins (Carol) of Conway and Jeffery Kissiah (Robin) of Florence, SC; and one sister, Melissa Stewart (Tim) of Hartsville, SC; a special niece that brought lots of laughs, Bobbie (Robbie) Pate of Conway; and a close friend, Mr. Lynn Payne of Surfside Beach. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday from Ridgefield Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Hayes and Rev. John Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. A reception will follow at South Strand Assembly of God, 3507 US 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday.
