Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Billy Weldon Frazier
December 23, 1943 – September 3, 2025
Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Billy Weldon Frazier, a dedicated U.S. Army veteran, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away on September 3, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, SC, at the age of 81.
The eldest son of Bill and Fay Frazier, Billy was born in Cleburne, Texas on December 23, 1943. He graduated from Cleburne High School in 1962 and then had the privilege to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point where he graduated in 1966 and was commissioned an Armor Officer in the U.S. Army. After completing Ranger School and Airborne School, Billy was stationed in Germany before heading to Vietnam as part of the Military Assistance Command – Vietnam where he saw combat as an advisor to a South Vietnamese Infantry Battalion and then a Cavalry Squadron during his 12-month tour of duty (1969-1970). He proudly served in various other assignments in his 21-year career including teaching at USMA; working on the initial development of the Army's M1 Tank; and culminating his career in 1987 as the Commander of the Armor Test Board at Fort Knox. Billy's military career was marked by numerous achievements and honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, three Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, among others. He was also awarded the Combat Infantrymen's Badge, Ranger Tab and Airborne Wings.
In January 1966, Billy had the fortunate luck to get set up on a blind date with a young art teacher. He met the love of his life, Molly Moore, and they were married that same year on November 19. Billy and Molly started their long and adventurous life together stationed in Germany. They developed lifelong friendships with the other young couples stationed with them, along with the USMA class of 1966, and so many other military families over the 20 years.
After retiring from the Army, Billy and Molly settled in Fairview, TX and Billy began a second career at Texas Instruments (later Raytheon). His work allowed him to travel the world including living two years in England. In 2002, Billy and Molly retired a second time to the Texas hill country town of Boerne. In 2016, they relocated a final time to Myrtle Beach, to be closer to their daughter and youngest grandchildren. With each new home, Billy and Molly developed new and long-lasting friendships.
Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Molly Moore Frazier; his parents, Bill and Fay Frazier; his sister, Claudia Frances Frazier; his brother-in-law, Glenn Hall. He is survived by his siblings, Ruth Ann Hall, Barbara (Greg) Ricketts, and Ricky (Marie) Frazier; his children, James (Dorothy) Frazier, Laura (Tom) Rice, and Jenny (Erik) Secker; his grandchildren, Scott (Callie) Frazier, Kaela (Tyler) Trousser, Garrett Frazier, Egan Secker, and Sawyer Secker; and his great-grandson, Oliver Frazier.
