Betty J. (BJ) Humphries, 80 of Myrtle Beach, SC went home to be with the Lord at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital on Friday June 6, 2025,
She was born August 3, 1944, in Webster Springs, WV to Lawrence & Effie Payne of Webster Springs. She is survived by her husband, Robert Humphries of Myrtle Beach, SC.
She graduated from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio. Attended Maryland University, & Howard University in Washington, DC. She started her career as a clerk typist with the FBI in Washington, DC Sept 1963 to 1967, transferred to the Navy Dept, 1967 to 1981, 1981 - 2001 with Defense Investigative Service and rest of her government career was with the Navy Dept until retirement Jan 2001. Obtained her Real Estate license in VA and worked part-time in Real Estate part-time week-ends from 1973 thru 2004. From 2001 to 2009 worked for a government contractor (CSCI,) at the Pentagon. She attended the Socastee Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach, SC. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence & Effie Payne, brothers, David, Phillip J., Romney, Johnny, Mike, Delmas, & Arthur Payne, her sister Karen Sue Payne, she is survived by her sister, Lemona Carpenter of Webster Springs, brother, Robin and his wife of Webster Springs, niece Cheryl Neudorf (Jim) in Akron, Ohio, and Kimberly Runyon of Lauderdale Mississippi, Karen Tompkins of Sheridan, Ark, & Donna of Pine Bluff, ARK. nephews, Bryan and Brandon Payne, Larry Carpenter of Webster Springs, and Airon Carpenter of Harpers Ferry, WV, John Payne, Jr., Lauderdale, Mississippi and God-daughter, Lisa Roby of Indian Head,Maryland. Special friends, Ray Dempsey, Fredericksburg, VA, Arlene Murray, Springfield, VA, Faith Posten, Jacksonville, FL, Jamie & Debby Callender, of Springfield, VA, & Alfred Clay, of Webster Springs, WV.
The family will hold a gathering at Betty and Robert's Home on Sunday June 8, 2025, from 12 -2pm for friends and Neighbors.
Funeral Services to be held at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home 155 McGraw Ave. Webster Springs, WV 26288, with interment following in Parcoal Cemetery of Webster Springs, WV.
