Betty retired from General Electric Company in Winchester in 1988 and was an active member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. She took great joy and peace from tending her garden; each bloom was a quiet reflection of her gentle spirit. She held a deep love for the mountains of her childhood, finding solace and inspiration in the rolling hills of Spring Gap Mountain where she grew up Betty and her beloved husband Don enjoyed traveling together, delighting in new places and the warm conversations she always could talk with strangers who quickly became friends. Her love of flowers, adventure, and people enriched her life and the lives of those around her. Betty was first married to Carl R. Arnold of Burlington, WV, who preceded her in death in 1985. She later married Donald R. Burton on whom she married on May 17, 1986, and shared a rich life until his passing in 2010. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Janet K. Chaney, and by sisters Deloris Manning and Shirley Hamilton. Betty is survived by her son in law, Earl M. Chaney Jr.; her stepdaughter, Joan K. Meinert of Nevada City, CA; and her stepson, William R. She also leaves five great grandchildren: Mason and Grant Chaney of Myrtle Beach, Justin and Jacob Lepson of Cabbage Key, and Briana Burton of Durango, CO. Betty's family and friends will remember her for her warmth, her welcoming conversations, and the little acts of care that made every gathering brighter.
