Bernadette Gildea Obituary

Bernadette J. Gildea, 87, passed away peacefully with her loving daughter by her side on Wednesday May 21, 2025 at Legacy Village Nursing Home on Prince Creek Parkway in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was born on February 27, 1938 in France to the late Elie Pont & Simone Carassan Pont. Along with her parents, Bernadette is reunited in passing with her beloved husband, Joseph John Gildea; and their son in-law, Michael Freeman. Bernadette was a hardworking woman with a heart of gold and a zest for life. She was a well-educated executive secretary for Nixon Peabody, LLP for many years where she made life-long friends. Following her well-deserved retirement, Bernadette was able to enjoy the quiet life. She enjoyed time spent with family and making memories with friends. In her free time, Bernadette loved to jazzercize and stay active. Above all else, Bernadette loved her family with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed. Left to cherish Bernadette's memory are her adoring daughter, Kathleen B. Freeman of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandson, Sean Chesnut and wife, Michelle of Leesville, LA & granddaughter, Desiree Shuping and husband Eric of Murrells Inlet, SC; great-grandchildren, Adelyn & Avery Chesnut and Mackenzie, Marlee & Liam Shuping; as well as many supportive friends and neighbors. A Celebration of Bernadette's life will be held privately. At the request of the family, please consider memorial contributions in lieu of flowers.
