Benny Vereen Obituary

Benny Vereen, age 78, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at his residence. Born in Portsmouth, VA, he was a son of the late Benjamin Vereen and Dorothy Perkins Vereen. Benny worked for Georgetown Steel for over 33 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the USS Forestall. He was a Mason and a Shriner and a member of Trio Methodist Church. Benny loved hunting birds, ducks, deer and teaching his family to hunt. He also loved good home cooking, hot rods, car shows, racing boats, tractors and travel. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael David Causey and a brother, Carl Vereen. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Cheryl Vereen; two sons, Leo Horrom Vereen and wife Becky of Myrtle Beach and Wendell Ray Vereen and wife Kelly of Murrells Inlet; grandchildren, Alexander Horrom Vereen and wife Makenzie, Nathaniel Hunter Vereen, Heather Vereen, Alexis Leonard and husband Stephen and Breanna Brengelman and husband Aaron; great grandchildren, Michael Brengelman, Abigail Brengelman and Isabella Leonard; brothers, Joey Vereen and wife Linda of Andrews, SC and Timmy Vereen and wife Tricia of Andrews, SC and a sister-in-law, Linda Vereen (Carl's wife). A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Friday, October 24, 2025 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, 950 West Farris Rd. Greenville, SC29605.
