Alonza Vibbert Obituary
Alonza Leroy Vibbert, aged 85, of Myrtle Beach, SC and formally of Warren PA, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 13, 2025, to reunite with his love.
Al (Sonny) was born on July 16, 1939, to Clarence and Roberta (Burley) Vibbert Kane, PA. He graduated from Otto Eldred HS in Duke Center, PA.
Al grew up in McKean Co PA, with nine other siblings. (Al being the oldest); Shirly, Clarence (Butch), Carol, Nancy, Linda, Dennis, Dean, David, and John.
Al enlisted into the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska, Germany and Myrtle Beach. After HS, he met the woman of his dreams, Donna Joyce Detar. They were married on May 26, 1962, and raised three children: Misty, Alan, and Kelly. They lived a simple yet adventurous life for nearly 63 years of marriage when he lost his wife on March 27, 2024.
Traveling to and from Warren, PA and Myrtle Beach in their golden years, they finally settle in Myrtle Beach where Al was originally stationed while in the Air Force so many years ago. He was a lifetime member of the AM Vets in Sugar Grove, PA.
Al is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 63 years, Donna Joyce (Detar) Vibbert (2024); parents, Clarence Vibbert (2001), and Roberta (Burley) Vibbert (2004); sisters, Nancy Clark (1989), Linda Bright (2025), and Carol Braun (1989); brother, Clarence (Butch) Vibbert (2014), as well as their beloved dog of 16 years, Kasey (2023).
Al spent most of his life working in the oil industry, then retired, moving to Myrtle Beach working part time tending to local golf courses which was his passion sport. He enjoyed many sports, softball, bowling, and golf during his younger years. He had a great talent of drawing. He was an avid reader and spent many hours reading. He loved watching sports, Nascar being his favorite.
Al is survived by his three children; Misty (Tim) Bius, Alan (Krista) Vibbert, Kelly (Chris) Wynn; a sister, Shirly Lican, and four brothers; Dennis, Dean, David, and John Vibbert; ten grandchildren, Kachina, Danielle, Heather, Chelsie, Olivia, Quinn, Annabelle, Amber, Nicky, and baby Delaney, whom he never had the chance to meet; seven great grandchildren, Aiden, Cameron, Alonzo, Adranna, Milenna, Karis, and Archer.
The family will hold a full military Air Force honor guard service at the Florence Military Cemetery, to be announced at a later date where he, his loving wife, (Donna) and beloved pet Kasey will be entombed.
An additional private service will take place at a later time where immediate family will attend the spreading of their ashes at the ocean and at the Kinzua Bridge State Park, so they are able to travel the vast waters and meet again.
