Alan Vancil Obituary

Alan Carl Vancil, age 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 7, 2025. Born in Rushville, IL, Alan was the son of the late Vasser and Martha Vancil. To know him, was to love him. His children knew him as "Daddy-o," and those from the church knew him as "Papa Smurf." Alan was a member and served as a Chaplain at Palmetto Pointe Church. He called everyone "brother" or "sister," and he truly loved everyone. He was a servant of the Lord and never without a smile. He had a wonderful sense of humor too and could make just about anybody laugh. Alan was an avid motorcycle rider. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Navy Seal serving 6 tours in the Vietnam War. Also, he was a member of the D.A.V. American Legion. Alan retired from the Department of Navy Civil Service in San Diego, CA. His career expanded several decades and during his career he worked as a Welder, Structural Ironworker, Business Line Team Leader/Planning and Real Estate, Civil Engineering Technician, Construction Representative for Navy Housing, Planner and Estimator, Environmental Protection Specialist. Survivors include his wife, Christine Vancil; daughters, Melani Searls (Mark) of Estacada, OR, Amy Cates (Curtis) of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren Emily Brateng (Jeb) of Dallas, OR, Kayla Fleshman (Dean) of Silverton, OR, Jarrett Howard (Kayli) of Vancouver, WA, Katelynn Fisher (Dylan) of Vancouver, WA, Corinne Cates of Vancouver, WA; great grandchildren, Aurelia, Anja, Lyla, Desmond; and his beloved french bulldogs, Benji and Mikey. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Palmetto Pointe Church. There will be a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. 2901 Fantasy Way, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is serving the family.
