Alan England Obituary

Alan England – Heart of Gold, Lover of Landscaping Alan Lee "Al" England, 85, of Pawleys Island, SC, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025. Born on June 27, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, Al was a cherished husband, loving father, and devoted friend whose quick wit and creative spirit touched all who knew him. Al is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Mary Lou England, his treasured daughter Gayle Kamm (Chad), beloved son Brandt England (Christy), his grandchildren JJ Kamm (Brooklyn), Trevor Kamm, Hunter Kamm, Madison England, and Quinn Tilley, as well as treasured friend Dick Towse. He was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Maxine England and his son Scott England. Al graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business from Bowling Green State University, where he played the bugle for ROTC. This was a prelude to his proud service in the United States Air Force following college. On July 4, 1962, Al married Mary Lou, beginning a partnership grounded in love, humor, and unshakeable support for one another. Al worked his way up the ladder at Owens Illinois, ending his career as the Vice President of purchasing and then working as a consultant. Al was well known for his landscaping and flowers as well as his sharp wit and creative writing skills, Al was a storyteller at heart, delighting family and friends each year with his annual Christmas letter-a tradition that captured his humor and love of words. In his younger years he reveled in life's simple pleasures: afternoons on the golf course, traveling to new destinations, and sharing happy hours with friends. In retirement he enjoyed researching and managing investments. Al was also a dedicated member of his community. He was a parishioner of Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church and found fulfillment volunteering with Birthright of Georgetown. He was always willing to lend a helping hand anytime anyone needed it and was well known for his well-stocked garage, "Little Home Depot". A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the Precious Blood of Christ (PBOC) Life Center (left of church). Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. A military salute and inurnment will follow at the PBOC Columbarium. The family invites everyone to join them after the service at Pawleys Tap House and Grille, 13089 Ocean Highway, to share memories and celebrate Al's remarkable life.
