William Brawley Obituary

William Scott Brawley passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. Known affectionately as "Great Scott," he lived a life marked by devotion - to his faith, his family, and the people around him. Wherever he went, he brought energy, warmth, and connection. There was no heart he didn't touch or room he didn't fill. His charisma was magnetic, and his compassion for the children of the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind shaped decades of service as Chair of the Board and its Foundation Board. The children in his neighborhood described him as Godly, Respectful, Encouraging, Authentic, Tender-hearted, Servant-hearted, Courageous, Optimistic, Thankful and Trusting in God - a true GREAT SCOTT. He will be deeply missed by many - especially his wife of 60 years, Linda Snipes Brawley; their children, Catherine Templeton (Morgan) and Will Brawley (Mandy McClure); and their grandchildren, McCabe, Cacky, and Hampton Templeton, and Bette and Stella Brawley. Scott grew up in Rock Hill with his lifelong friends from Winthrop Training School, a bond they kept daily. After graduating from USC, he built a business in Columbia and helped launch the legendary Irmo Navy. He was a vibrant part of Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church, where he grew his family. In retirement, he made the Isle of Palms his home, embracing its people as his own and devoting his time to both seeking and sharing a genuine love for God. Scott loved golf and bible study, but what he loved most were his cars. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM, Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Isle of Palms First United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind Foundation or First United Methodist Church, Isle of Palms. Arrangements by James A. McAlister, Inc. (843) 766-1365.

Earlier today

Scott was a dedicated Rotarian. He was the founder of my club, the Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo. And he had some really cool cars.

Earlier today

Scott was a fine person. I well remember his warm caring nature growing up. Lamar and I both send prayers to his family.
