It is with profound sadness we announce William (Bill) Lee Anderson, age 76, of
Summerville, SC, passed away at home on the evening of Tuesday February 3rd 2026.
Born on August 21, 1949, in Washington, D.C., to Alda Mae Pounds (née Roudabush) and Taylor Jackson Anderson. Bill grew up in Adelphi, Maryland, and at 15 years old, he met the love of his life, Vicki Lynn Gough. They married at 19 and shared 56 years of marriage. He and Vicki were blessed with two daughters, Jennifer and Christina, who were the pride and joy of his life. Bill was a proud and protective father, and a deeply respected grandfather to his sole grandson Jacob.
He was known for his wisdom, intelligence, and witty sense of humor. One of his favorite phrases was, "Dad's always right!" - and, as his family lovingly admits, 99.9% of the time, he truly was right! Even when everyone tried to prove him wrong, Bill almost always had the right answer. He was an extremely knowledgeable man who loved historical facts and possessed a remarkable ability to hear something once, retain it, and recall it with ease. He delighted in sharing what he knew and often joked that he was "Mr. Google." His curiosity, sharp mind, and love of learning were lifelong gifts he willingly shared with others.
On his 18th birthday in 1967, William enlisted in the United States Army, answering the call to serve his country. In 1968, he served in the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in combat and later returned home safely. For his bravery and sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart. Bill loved his country deeply and was a proud American, carrying his service with humility and honor.
Following his military service, Bill spent a brief period working as an apprentice learning furniture repair, where his natural ability quickly became evident. Bill had a keen talent for fixing things and a remarkable ability to look at something broken and find a creative solution to mend or restore it. Bill spent 35 years working at Allied Van Lines, with the majority of his time serving as Director of Claims. He later continued his career with Costco in Naperville, Illinois, where he worked for 12 years.
In 2019, Bill and Vicki retired and relocated from Aurora, Illinois, to the place they would proudly call home-South Carolina. Bill truly loved living in SC and quickly embraced their new community. He and Vicki made many wonderful friends, and Bill especially found camaraderie with those who shared his love of poker-a game he would have happily played every night of the week. He was a proud member of the Golden Warriors Veterans Group and took great pride in helping to run their semi-annual veterans' sale, with proceeds donated back into the community.
William is survived by his devoted wife Vicki Lynn Anderson (née Gough), his two loving daughters Jennifer Lynn Anderson and Christina Lynn Anderson, his cherished grandson Jacob
William Giangreco (Jennifer's son), his sister Lois Chaplin (née Anderson) and husband Earl, his brother Tommy Bunn and wife Lisa, and numerous extended relatives.
The hearts of Bill's wife, daughters, and grandson are shattered as they face a world without their beloved protector, guide, and patriarch. Though our hearts are filled with sorrow, we find comfort and strength knowing he has found peace in heaven with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Rest in peace, Hon/Dad/Papa.
In memory of Bill, please consider donations to Wounded Warriors Project or
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. No formal services will take place at this time.
