Sarah Beaulieu Obituary

Sarah Baker Beaulieu, 94 years old died on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Mrs. Beaulieu was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on August 24, 1928. She was reared in Summerville by her parents, Edward Lee Baker and Annie Fenner Baker. She studied vocal performance at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and was a member of Schola Cantorum. She performed at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Leonard Bernstein and later under the baton of guest conductor and 20th century french composer, Francois Poulenc.

In 1959, she married Albert Beaulieu and returned to Summerville. An accomplished singer, she was a member of the choir at St. Paul's Church in Summerville for more than seventy years. In the heyday of its choir, she was the featured soprano soloist in performing major choral works: Handel's Messiah, Dubois Seven Last Words Of Christ, Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio and Faure's Requiem. She was instrumental in the establishing fellowship at St. George's Espiscopal Church in the early 1980's.

Active in the community, she was a substitute teacher at Pinewood School on Main Street and managed Wright's Gift Shop on Short Central. In her later years, Mrs. Beaulieu cherished her time as the docent at the Timrod Library. She is survived by her two children Michelle Erwin Beaulieu, Catherine Fenner Beaulieu, grandson Greggory Alan Martin and goddaughter Eliza Chapman Bailey.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 10:30 am, followed by a graveside interment and reception at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 316 W. Carolina Ave., Summerville, South Carolina.

Sarah was so kind and encouraging to us when we attended St Paul's. Singing with her in the choir was fun as it was a blessing. She had such an amazing story and experience. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.
