Ruth M. Nida, 91, of Summerville, SC, passed away on December 3, 2021, at home, surrounded by her family. Born on March 5, 1930, in Madison, WV, Ruth was a long-time administrator for the Bristol Tennessee Electric System and had spent most of her retirement years in Summerville. She is survived by her four children: Steve (Rebecca) of Summerville; Suzanne (Walt Michael) of Westminster, MD; Jeanie Cape (David) of Columbia; and Terri Ash (Lamar) of Bogart, GA. In addition, she is survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 66 years, Al; her parents, Lloyd McWhorter and Norma Miller McWhorter; her brothers, David and Donald McWhorter; and her sister, Connie McWhorter. Ruth was a friend to everyone who ever met her, and her kindness never ceased to be evident and abundant. She was loved by her family and absolutely adored by her grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at Summerville Baptist Church, 417 Central Avenue, at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 7. The family will receive visitors at the church for one hour prior to the service. Out of respect for Ruth's wishes, unvaccinated guests are expected to wear masks. Interment will take place at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN. Donations in Ruth's memory may be directed to Summerville Baptist Church or to the National Kidney Foundation. Ruth was one of the best people I've known. When spending holidays or vacationing with the Nida family, Ruth always made me feel like one of the family, as she did with everyone. She was a gentle soul. My condolences go out to the wonderful Nida family that she leaves behind.
