Roberto's parents and two younger brothers pre-deceased him. His parents are buried in Easley, South Carolina. He suffered a severe stroke almost 12 years ago, ending his career as a craftsman in flooring. His work is seen in many Charleston homes including some of those on Rainbow Row. In addition to his work, Roberto was very active in his local church and served as an interpreter for missions work in Uruguay. His remarkable tenor voice is fondly remembered by his church family, especially his solo rendition of "Finally Home" which was a favorite that he sang at several funerals. Most recently, Roberto delighted in being a 'greeter' for Sunday morning services at his church, First Emmanuel Baptist Church, Summerville, SC.
