Richard Scott Obituary

Richard Charles Scott, born on July 24, 1949, was a Vietnam-era veteran of the United States Navy. He passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, surrounded by his family. Preceded in death by his father, Jesse, his mother, Betty, and his brother, John, Richard grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, where he attended Maury High School and Old Dominion University. At the age of 21, Richard enlisted in the US Navy and valued this service highly. He retired in July 1991.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judy, his daughters, Christina Hernandez (Oliver) of Summerville, SC, Danielle Scott of New Orleans, LA, and Katrina Scott (Katie) of Baltimore, MD. He has two grandsons, Benjamin Hernandez (Sophia) of Greenwood, SC, and Matthew Hernandez of Summerville, SC, as well as a great-grandson, Asher Hernandez of Greenwood, SC.

A military committal service honoring the life of Richard will be held on October 17, 2025, at the Beaufort National Cemetery at 1200. Friends and family fellowship and celebration of life to follow at a family residence in Summerville, SC at 1600.

The family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught them, the love he shared, and the memories they will cherish forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Wreaths Across America, which remembers and honors veterans through the annual laying of wreaths on gravesites.
