Nancy Cogburn Obituary

Nancy Cogburn, 73, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 16, 1951, in Easton, Pennsylvania, to Shirley (Pensyl) and Kinsey Detweiler. Nancy's greatest joy in life was her family. She found endless happiness in her role as a mother and grandmother, cheering at games and competitions, and sharing special moments with each of her grandchildren. She also loved the simple pleasures-playing cards and mahjong with neighbors, enjoying lunches with the "Fort Moms," and having long conversations with sweet friends. She is survived by her daughters: Carrie Rafferty (Ian) of Summerville, SC; Erin MacIlwaine (Wilson) of Charlottesville, VA; and Kimberly Watts (Ryan) of Laurens, SC; her beloved grandchildren: Drew, Lilly, Reid, Ellie, Molly, Abbie, and Ford; and her faithful dog, Tessa. She also leaves behind her cherished sister, Jo Ann McDaniel of Summerville, SC, nephew Brian McDaniel (MaKeva) and great-niece Kinsey of Charleston, SC. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Randy McDaniel. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her deep love for her family, and the strength and grace with which she lived her life.

I used to babysit for Ms. Cogburn when her children were very young. She was such a kind, loving mother who would do anything for her family. Her smile and soft spoken voice was just a ray of sunshine who would make anyone smile. I ran into her many times out at the high school football games when my own children attended high school. Sending my condolences to her daughters and extended family during this difficult time.

Nancy was a kind and caring lady with whom I worked before she retired several years ago. My condolences to her family. Nancy will be warmly remembered and sorely missed.
