Mary Bain Obituary

Mary Ellen Bain was born May 31,1941 and passed away on July 12, 2025. She was a retired career civil servant starting at Ft Holabird, Baltimore, MD and retired from Charleston Air Force Base, Charleston, SC. A graduate of Catholic High School of Baltimore, MD, Class of 1959. She is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Ann Sobus of Tampa, FL, and Kathleen Mooney of Baltimore, MD. Her children, MCPO (retired) William C. Simpson (Marlene), Lori Perry (Dave), Mary Jane Bain, Margaret L. Carlile (Joseph) and her adopted daughter Leah A. Bain. Grandchildren, Austin L. Carlile, Stephan A. Simpson, Heather A. Simpson, Christopher L. Fago (Megan), Christopher R. Simpson, SSG Thomas W. Simpson (Vanessa), Charlene Willis (Gregg), Ashley Wheeler, Christopher Wheeler (Emily), and Kirsten Perry Gordon (Andrew). Eleven great-grandchildren, Tyler Simpson, Arya Simpson, Aaliyah Simpson, Matthew Simpson, Dove M. Fago, William R. Simpson, Arden Wheeler, Avery Wheeler, Grayson Gordon and Aniston Gordon. She is predeceased by the love of her life, Ronald L. Bain (January 1, 1935 - August 4, 2013), daughter Susan Ellen Fago (August 11, 1964 – July 12, 2022), and granddaughter Christi A. Bain Carlile (January 21, 1999 – April 27, 2024). Mary was very involved in the Auxiliary of VFW Post 3433, Ladson, SC, serving in various positions, culminating in President of the Auxiliary. She was also a passionate advocate for handicapped students in Dorchester School District 2 and writing letters to the State Legislature and School Board and informing parents of their rights and obligations.
