Marvin Benford Obituary

Marvin Benford Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Summerville on December 1, 2025. Marvin was the devoted husband of Myrtie Lou, who preceded him in death just shy of their 71st wedding anniversary in October. He was also preceded in death by his loving parents, Sam and Pauline, his brothers Sam Jr. and Lamar, his beloved daughter Melodie, and his baby grandson Micah. Marvin is survived by a large and loving family, including his adoring sister Suzanne Willoughby, his devoted children Deborah Swails and Marvin Benford Jr., and sons-in-law David Swails and Corky Hart. He was a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren: Davie, Joe, Elizabeth, Jon, Sam, Marvie, Zach, and Abbie. His legacy continues through fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Marvin is also remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and countless dear friends. As the owner of Benford Construction, Marvin dedicated over sixty years to building and restoring many historic homes that still grace Summerville today. His craftsmanship and commitment to quality have left a lasting mark on the community. Marvin was a faithful member of the Waterwheel Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and a devout student of the Bible. He had an overwhelming love for sharing his knowledge and faith in his heavenly father. Throughout his life, Marvin combined his devotion to Jehovah and to Jesus with his talent for building by volunteering with his wife to construct and repair places of worship across the Southeast. Their service even extended to Jamaica, where Marvin taught building skills to local congregations. Known for his kind heart, infectious laugh, wise words, hard work, and honesty, Marvin was a friend and role model to many. His spirit and influence touched countless lives, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family expresses their gratitude to the nurses and home-health workers who assisted in Marvin's care. In harmony with Marvin's wishes, there will be no public service, but the family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
