Marie White Obituary

Marie White, 102 years young, of Summerville passed away on March 16, 2024 in the comfort of her home with her family, including her loving dog, Bogey. A service will be held on April 6, 2024 at 11:00 am at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, 130 West 1st Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The Whites will receive family and friends an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of Marie White to Faith Sellers Senior Center, 312 N Laurel St., Summerville, SC 29483 or Intrepid Hospice, 201 Sigma Drive, Suite 130 A and B, Summerville, SC 29486.

Marie was a Jersey girl born in Jersey City on July 5, 1921 to Maurice and Sadie Alexander. On November 22, 1942 she married PFC Edward C White, Sr., a Jersey boy from Bayonne. They were together until Ed, Sr's death in 2005. They shared two sons, Ed, Jr., and David (deceased). The White family moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1957 where both Ed, Sr and Marie were Catholic School teachers. Marie taught over three decades and retired from Nativity School in Hollywood, FL after serving as a first- grade teacher for 24 years. Marie loved to roller skate and dance. She also loved to party and enjoyed playing cards and games, especially bingo and dominoes.

Watching sports was a passion. Tennis was her favorite, but she loved watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren excel on many playing fields. In 2010 Marie moved from Country Manors in Delray Beach, FL to Peachtree City, GA to be near her son, Ed, Jr, and her daughter-in-law, Diane and in 2012 she moved into the Peachtree City White House with Ed and Diane. The White family moved to Summerville, SC in 2017 where Marie became active at Faith Sellers Senior Center and enjoyed monthly gatherings at the Trinity Methodist Church in Ridgeville, SC in addition to becoming a St John the Beloved parishioner. Marie was the oldest Summerville resident to enjoy the Center and celebrated her 102 birthday there with friends and family. Her celebration was featured on the front page of the Summerville Journal and no one enjoyed the publicity more than her. In addition to her son, Col Ed White USAF (Ret) and his wife, Diane, she is survived by her grandchildren Elizabeth Meares (Lee, LTC ANG Ret) of Columbia, SC, CPT Edward White, III, USN (RET) (Carla) of Virginia Beach, VA, Cynthia Beacom (Tom) of Manassas, VA, Neil White (Cheryl) of West Palm Beach, FL, Sean White of Ft Lauderdale, FL, 9 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie will be remembered for her beautiful smile. She loved her family and truly enjoyed being with friends. We will miss her.
