Maria Hazel Malapitan-Huyett Obituary

Maria Hazel Malapitan Huyett peacefully passed away the morning of May 21, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. Maria Hazel was born in Batangas, Philippines on December 31, 1971. She excelled in everything she attempted, graduating from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila Magna Cum Laude after earning a complete scholarship for all her education at the exclusive Pontifical University established in 1611. She scored second in the Philippine Physical Therapy Boards. She immigrated to the United States to be closer to family and worked as a Physical Therapist throughout Texas, including Kermit, Galveston, Beaumont, Corpus Christi and Brownsville, where she eventually settled. She married in May, 2002, and enjoyed five joy-filled years with her husband Joseph Huyett, who is a firefighter in Harlingen, Texas. The couple traveled extensively throughout their relationship. Maria Hazel, however, left her greatest mark on her patients who she served selflessly and her total dedication to the Church. Maria Hazel was a member of Opus Dei, a lifelong Roman Catholic, a teacher of CCID Catholic Catechism and a dear friend to Christians of numerous denominations. Churches in the Philippines, Germany, Uruguay, California, Missouri, Illinois and Texas including Episcopal, Lutheran, Southern Baptist, Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox denominations, among others, prayed for her and mourn her loss. When she fell ill, she was forced to withdraw from the Master's in Business Administration program at University of Texas, Brownsville, where she was among the top of her class, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA. Her dedication to her profession has inspired her employer, South Texas Rehab Hospital, to create a foundation in her name for the purpose of providing scholarships so that her name would endure to inspire others, as she inspired her patients and coworkers. Maria Hazel leaves behind her husband of five years, Joseph Huyett, her parents Franco and Isabel Malapitan, sister Marjorie Ann Salinas and brother-in-law Robert Salinas, nephews Samuel P. Ybarra and Braydon J. Salinas of Galveston, Texas; brother Oliver H. Malapitan, sister-in-law Maria Rowena Ravela Malapitan, niece Anjelica R. Malapitan of Toronto, Canada, her mourning husbands' family of Kansas City, Missouri and numerous friends and relatives throughout the world. She tried to serve the Lord in all that she did. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 25, 2007 from 5pm to 10pm at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 I45, Texas City, Texas 77591, 1-888.822.7637, with a funeral mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1224 Cedar Drive, LaMarque, Texas 77568 on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 10am. Internment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery immediately following the funeral mass.

To Marjorie and the Huyett family,
I would like to extend my condolences to your family for Maria's loss. When our loved ones die, we may ask, "Will I ever see them again?" The Apostle John wrote about the promise of a resurrection at John 5:28, 29 which says "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life..." I have a bible based brochure called "When someone we love dies". It helps to answer questions such as "How can I live with my grief? and "Is It Normal to Feel This Way"? If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
With deepest sympathy,

December 19, 2010

I am sorry for your grief. Please know that Jehovah knows what you are going through. That is why he has offered the hope of a resurrection (John 5: 28, 29; Psalm 37:10, 11).

Those we love left us with gifts in the form of memories that no one can take away. They gave us wisdom that we can still recall, companionship when we were alone, comfort when we needed it, and memories of their laughter and smile. These are gifts of love that are ours to keep. Though I do not know the family, I would like to extend my condolences. May the tender mercy that God has always shown be with your family now so that you will know that you are not alone. And may the prayers of others help in some small way to bring you strength, comfort and courage each day. Many words will be expressed, yet we know God can express and provide to you and your family everything that is needed to care and sustain your hearts at this sad time. - Isaiah 41:10 & 13.

No words I write can ever say, how much I miss you everyday
as time goes by the loneliness grows, how I miss you nobody knows.
I think of you in silence, and I speak your name,
but all I have is memories, and a photo in a frame.
No one sees me weep as I cry myself to sleep.
The Love I have for you is in my heart to keep.
I will never stop loving you, I know I never will
Deep inside my heart, you´re with me still.
My heart still aches as I whisper low. I need you Sis, and miss you so
but I know you are in Gods precious arms
and he is protecting you from any harm
There is a place in my heart, that no one can fill. I love you and I always will.

It's been a year...yet you are very much remembered with fondness. My dearest friend, I know you are very happy and at peace now. Once again let me take this opportunity to thank you for all the memories we have shared, for all the trials we have encountered and for the precious friendship we have built. Rest assured that you will always be in my heart and our friendship will continue to eternity.
