Kenneth Muckenfuss Obituary

Dr. Kenneth Browning Muckenfuss, Jr., a genteel Southern Gentleman known by those who knew and loved him as Kenny, Ken, "Doc" departed this life June 18, 2022 at Roper Hospice Cottage in Mt. Pleasant, SC. He was born in the Old Dorchester County Memorial Hospital in Summerville, SC on December 2, 1943. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth B. Muckenfuss, Sr. and Gladys Bell Muckenfuss, and his infant son, Kenneth Beauregard Muckenfuss. He was educated in Dorchester County public schools graduating from Harleyville-Ridgeville High School, the class of 1962. He was a representative at Palmetto Boy's State, Mr. Handsome finalists, and the Most Popular Senior Boy.He graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa in 1967. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Chi fraternity. He retired from his practice Muckenfuss Chiropractic/Acute Care Center after serving the Lowcountry for 40+ years. He was a pioneer for the Chiropractic profession in the state of South Carolina. He leaves behind a legacy of wellness, goodwill, and caring for others from a holistic viewpoint. He firmly believed in the God given innate healing power of the human body. Chiropractic care was a huge component to being healthy in his own life and the lives that he touched throughout his career. He will be most remembered for his love of life and wonderful-friendly spirit. He loved people and had an irrepressible sense of humor. He was truly a giving, gracious and kind-hearted human being. His Charlestonese speech (especially using his CB in the 1970's) and Southern phrases delighted many and especially his westerner wife. He was a true patriot who served his country and had a strong, personal relationship with God. He served in the 118th Infantry of the South Carolina Army National Guard from 1967-1973 as a volunteer enlistment. He was proud of his Southern roots and was honored to be a member of the H. L. Hunley Camp No. 143 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. His allegiance to God and country never wavered. He was also a lifelong member of Mt. Tabor UMC in Ridgeville. He leaves behind many who love him, most notably the mother of his adopted children: Claudette Short of Davenport, Iowa. One daughter, Dr. Natalie Muckenfuss Lyle of Boulder, CO, one son, Brian D. Muckenfuss of Davenport, Iowa, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister Marie Muckenfuss Thomas and brother-in-law Richard F. (Frank) Thomas of Ridgeville, SC. Additionally, he is survived by his long-time partner, Sharon O. Wilkins, as well as her children and grandchildren. Each of Ken's family members were devoted to him and thankful for all of his sage advice over the years. He accepted his cancer diagnosis with grace and courage. Ken was a solitary man of faith who studied the meaning and purpose of life extensively. With deepest gratitude, Ken said in his final days that he "wanted to thank all for helping smooth my transition. Especially my brother-in-law who was a devoted caregiver to me." I fought the fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith. Rest well with the Lord, gentle brother. Your loving memory lives on forever. A graveside memorial to celebrate his life will be held June 22, 2022 at Bonnerest Cemetery, S. Main St., Ridgeville, SC at 11am. Visitation will be held one hour before the graveside service. Rev. Barry Owens, his life-long friend, and Mt. Tabor UMC Rev. Cheri Yates will Officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to Bonnerest Cemetery Fund, 311 S. Main St. or to Mt. Tabor UMC, PO Box 193. Arrangements by James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, SC. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website at www.jamesadyal.com. I knew Doc since I was 15. Other than watching his physical body decline the last few months of his life, I don't have one even remotely bad memory of this man. He was a true Joy to know, an incredibly generous person with his time and resources. If he couldn't help you, he'd find someone who could. Making friends came as natural and easy to him as breathing. He was quick to find how something could be done vs. why it couldn't be done... Always upbeat. He tried to hide his pains and be strong til his last moments. He was a gifted storyteller and handy with a joke or quick turn of phrase. If he liked you, he let you know. He was a true gift..he had a good heart. He thought outside the box. I will miss him. There was certainly only one Doc... Thankful to have been his friend. I'll never forget his kind, fun-loving demeanor...or his words of encouragement. He loved God, and was happy to share his hands and knowledge to assist people with aches, pain and healing. Our loss, heaven's gain.

He had a big heart and loving nature. A southern gentleman to the core. He will be missed by all who knew him well. Rest In Peace my dear one.
