John Stoll Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of John Christian Stoll (“Chris”), age 54, of Hingham, Massachusetts on May 14, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Chris embraced life and endured his years of treatment with remarkable grace and patience. Even in the most challenging times, and to his final day, his self-deprecating humor, ready laugh, memorable smile, and quiet strength were ever present.

Chris was born on August 5, 1970 to Susan and Robert Stoll of Warrington, Pennsylvania. Following his graduation in 1988 from Central Bucks High School East, in Buckingham, PA, where he played on the golf team and excelled academically, Chris earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering with High Distinction in 1992, at Pennsylvania State University.

In 1993, Chris joined Draper, an independent non-profit engineering innovation company in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was a recipient of the Charles Stark Draper Fellowship, and pursued his graduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics degree in 1995.

A Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff, Chris built an outstanding career at Draper over 32 years in the Guidance, Navigation and Control Analysis Group, where he developed a much-deserved reputation as Draper’s lead expert in Accuracy Analysis for Trident Strategic Systems programs. He was well known for his mentorship of other engineers, and was both an esteemed contributor and valued friend to his long-time team.

In December 2005, Chris met Elizabeth Quigley Raleigh in Cambridge, Massachusetts through mutual friends, and for two decades, devotion and love illuminated their shared path. Chris and Quigley moved from Cambridge to Hingham in 2013, where Chris found himself truly at home. Chris and Quigley enjoyed memorable travel adventures over the years, and spent much of their time together, with countless walks in Hingham’s Bare Cove Park and World’s End with their dog, Kali, the apple of his eye, who followed Chris’ lead and made friends everywhere they went.

Chris was introduced to the game of golf early in life, and he developed a passion for it. He was a proud member of the Tour of Greater Boston for over 15 years. Even following his cancer diagnosis, Chris continued with an active competition schedule, continuing to improve his game and deepen bonds with his Tour friends, as well as winning numerous trophies and tournaments. In 2021, after playing his heart out through a remarkable season, Chris finished as Club Champion and Player of the Year in a field of 350 golfers. His friends in the Tour will remember him as a very good golfer, and an even better person.

Chris is survived by Quigley, his parents and sister, Jack, Susan, and Lisa Stoll, his aunt Linda Stoll, his nephews Nicholas and Martin Cioppi, and his niece Madeline Cioppi. Chris was also treasured by three generations of Quigley’s family as one of their own, and as a caring friend and a genuinely kind person who made others feel loved and valued. He is mourned by Quigley’s parents, Sallie and Walter Raleigh, her sisters Kimberley and Hannah Raleigh, her nieces and nephew, Katie Weber, Lily Moens and Charlie Moens, and by Bernard Moens, as well as a great many friends and colleagues.

With enduring gratitude and appreciation for the care Chris received from his doctors and the excellent nurses at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, as well as for the love he received from his many adopted cats and rescued dog, donations in his memory may be offered at his giving page on the Dana Farber website, to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and to the Scituate Animal Shelter.
