John Riley Obituary

John W. Riley, Jr., 84, of Summerville, SC, husband of Cynthia W. Riley, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at his residence.

Memorial Services were held Saturday afternoon, April 8, 2023 at 2 o'clock in Bethany UMC Spell Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's name may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church Missions, 118 W. 3rd South St., Summerville, SC 29483.

John was born October 28, 1938 in Dorchester County, a son of the late John W. Riley and Sarah Ganelle Smith. He founded Riley Lumber in 1983 and was an avid horseman and outdoorsman. He was an active member at Bethany UMC and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, was on the Pastor Parrish Committee, and served on four mission trips.

In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, Cynthia W. Riley of Summerville, John leaves behind his children, Wil Riley (Ann), Lori Pope-Poehner (Joe), and Mike Riley (Kristina) all of Summerville; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother, Thomas W. Riley.

John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will truly be missed.
