John Kennedy Obituary

John "Bill" William Kennedy, 75, of Summerville passed away peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2022.

A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 11 o'clock at Beautiful Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, 720 Old Trolley Road, Summerville, SC 29485. The family received friends the night before for a visitation on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock at Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Interment followed at Summerville Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or memorials can be made in honor of Bill to Beautiful Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church Youth Fund.

Bill was born on July 29, 1947 in Somerset, PA, and is the son of Paul and Catherine Bertoldi. During his lifetime Bill joined the U.S. Navy, and spent most of his time in the service being a Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Supervisor for more than 8 years. After honorably serving in the Navy, Bill spent many years working at Showa Denko Carbon as a technical writer and instructor. He would end up retiring from Showa Denko Carbon, and would then spend his free time going on the boat, fishing, and gardening. He also was great at playing the guitar, banjo, and ukulele. Bill was a long time member of Beautiful Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church and loved his church family very much. Most importantly, Bill was a great husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed dearly.

Bill is survived by his wife of many years, June Kennedy of Summerville, SC; son, Scott Kennedy (Mary Ann) of Rock Hill, SC; daughter, Sarah Roland (Ricky) of Florence, SC; sisters, Angie Kuchenbecker (Rod) of Mogadore, OH, Paula Cottrill (Scott) of Stow, OH; grandchildren, William, Chase, and Lauren. He is also survived by Debbie Kennedy. Bill is predeceased by his father, Paul Bertoldi; mother, Catherine Bertoldi; and Milton Kennedy.

The family appreciates everyone who has reached out and has been praying for them during this difficult time.

I had the distinct pleasure of serving with Bill at the Fleet and Mine Warfare Training Center in Charleston. He and I traveled to Newport RI to teach a two-week course. He was great to work with and easy to supervise. When we visited your home, it was great to see how proud he was of your blind dog as he knew his way around the yard. I will always smile when I hear his name
