Jean Dart Obituary

Jean Easley Lee Dart, 92, of North Charleston, widow of Lonnie J. Dart, went home to be with her Lord and savior, Friday, July 23, 2021. Born Bobbie Jean Easley, the youngest daughter of Hayden Easley and Vesta Byler Easley. Jean was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma on February 25, 1929.

Jean grew up in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of northwest Arkansas, graduating in 1948 from Garfield HS. She then moved to Tennessee where she married Robert E. Lee in 1949 and moved to Charleston in 1951 where she raised her three children. She worked at Sears-Roebuck and eventually retired from First Federal Savings and Loan. Jean was on the local Board of Directors for Multiple Sclerosis in the '70s-'80s and volunteered for years for the local Jerry Lewis March of Dimes Telethon. She loved being on the water, whether fishing or just boating, and quilting and crocheting in her later years. She made dozens of quilts for Mission Patchwork Quilters and Project Linus, and she was a generous donor to the Hope House for Men and Women. In 2007, she remarried at age 77 to childhood and family friend, LJ Dart and had the best seven years of her life back near family in Arkansas while traveling the country together until he died in 2014. Jean then moved back to Charleston near her children. She was a member of Summerville Baptist Church and absolutely loved her pastors and church friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, her five sisters, Lelia, Bernita, Nadine, Audra, and Glee, her younger brother Kentley, her husband LJ, and her daughter Debra Jean Tanner.

Jean is survived by her sons Michael Kent Lee (Carol) and Lawrence Edward Lee, both of Charleston; five grandchildren Stacey, Jennifer, Kristen, Willie, and Brandon who all loved her dearly; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family appreciates the Intrepid Hospice team and her caregivers for their outstanding care during her final weeks.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 10 to 11 o'clock at Summerville Baptist Church, 417 Central Avenue, Summerville with the funeral service to follow at 11 o'clock. Entombment will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville.
