James Hallman Obituary

James Lee Hallman, Jr. ("Jim"), age 77, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on February 24, 2026, in Walterboro, South Carolina.

Jim was born on March 1, 1945, in Gastonia, North Carolina, and grew up in Lincolnton, North Carolina.

He attended Western Carolina University, where he graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Jim remained active in the university community through the alumni association and was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Order, where he considered his fraternity brothers family throughout his life.

Following graduation, Jim served his country in the United States Army from 1970 to 1976.

He began his professional career with Duke Power, where he worked for 17 years. Afterward, he transitioned into industrial sales and remained in the field until his retirement in 2018.

In 1984, Jim married Loise B. "Lola" Hallman and became the proud stepfather of two children.

A lifelong aviator, Jim was a pilot who volunteered his time flying medical missions with Mission Air, helping transport patients to hospitals throughout the Southeast.

Jim also had a deep love for the water and his boats-especially his cherished 1969 Correct Craft-and spent countless hours on Lake Norman.

An extremely honest and easy-going Christian man, Jim was a faithful member of St. Peter by the Lake Episcopal Church since 2000, where he also served on the Vestry.

Jim is survived by his wife, Loise B. "Lola" Hallman of Summerville, South Carolina; his daughter, Ellen M. Schmieder (Chris) of Peachtree City, Georgia; and his son, Eugene E. "Skip" Stephenson, II (Heather) of Summerville, South Carolina.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren:

William F. Schmieder, II of Alpharetta, Georgia;

Jackson X. Schmieder (Taylor) of Gulf Shores, Alabama;

Zachary E. Stephenson (Chelsea) of Dallas, Texas;

Zoe E. Stephenson of West Ashley, South Carolina;

Daniel M. Horne of Roswell, Georgia;

Alexandra A. Horne of Roswell, Georgia;

Sydney M. Gist (Andrew) of Roswell, Georgia; and

Adeline L. Horne of Statesboro, Georgia.

He is further survived by three great-grandchildren:

Jim is also survived by his sister, Joyce Plaxco of Lincolnton, North Carolina; his nephew, Mart Plaxco (Carolyn) of Lincolnton, North Carolina; and his niece, Mary Lynne Baxter (James) of Lincolnton, North Carolina.
