Irmgard Long Obituary

Irmgard Long, beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Lexington, South Carolina, at the age of 97. Born on May 11, 1928, in Munich, Germany, Irmgard brought light, warmth, and a love of life everywhere she went. Irmgard immigrated to the United States and eventually made South Carolina her home, where she dedicated many years of service managing food service operations at the Coastal Center in Summerville. Her strong work ethic, kind spirit, and dedication to others made a lasting impact on all who knew her. She married the love of her life, Andy Long Sr., and together they built a life grounded in faith, devotion, and mutual respect. Irmgard cherished her home life and filled it with beauty and joy, whether through her flourishing garden, the comforting aromas of her home-cooked meals, or the flurry of birds she lovingly fed. A woman of many passions, Irmgard found happiness in simple pleasures: gardening, swimming, shopping, dancing, and sharing stories around the kitchen table. Her laughter was contagious, and her presence could light up any room. Irmgard's legacy is one of strength, grace, and generosity. She will be remembered not only for the love she gave so freely but for the vibrant spirit with which she lived each day. She is survived by her loving children: Evelyn Nelson (Tom), Jeanette Altemose (Mark), Andy O. Long, Jr. (Carol), and Denise M. Long; her grandchildren: Charles Leighton, Jr., Jason Altemose (Bobbi Jo), and Tonya Baker (Paul); as well as her great grandchildren: Paiten, Piper, Hudson, Chalmers, and Lawson. She was preceded in death by her loving parents: Mathias L. and Gertraud L.; as well as her sister, Gertrude Leitmeier. Services will be private.
