George Owens Obituary

In loving memory, George King Owens, Jr. passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025 at his home in Ladson with his devoted wife Gayle Burns at his side. He is also survived by three daughters and two grandchildren. George was born on August 8, 1945 in Norfolk, Virginia. He spent his entire life in the protection of others, first as a Marine who served his country with honor in Vietnam, then as a South Carolina Highway Patrolman, and lastly as a Charleston County Deputy Sherrif. He was the Founder of the South Carolina Troopers Association, the Silver Bears Breakfast Club, and Co-founder of Kitty Retirement Village. George loved to sing karaoke and everyone will remember him for "Trashy Women", "Remember When", and "Please Remember Me". He adored his South Carolina Gamecocks no matter how they were faring! His favorite saying was "domo arigatogozaimasu" (Thank you in Japanese) He will always be remembered by his constant smile and love to tell a joke. A private memorial service with Marine Honors was held in his honor. In lieu of flowers the family would suggest donations to Dorchester Paws (dorchesterpaws.org) or the Veterans Administration
