Gayle Garrett Brice
Newark - Gayle Lorraine Garrett Brice, 80, of Newark, Delaware, passed peacefully on January 28, 2026.
Born in Greer, South Carolina, to Lloyd and Margaret Garrett on March 7, 1945, Gayle was a graduate of Greer High School in 1963 and Winthrop College in 1966. Throughout her life she enjoyed singing in choirs, playing handbells, going on church retreats, and being part of Presbyterian Women's Circles in Summerville SC, Marietta GA, Lakeland FL, and Newark DE.
Gayle was a loving mother and homemaker raising her son Jim; and a devoted grandmother, attending every swim meet, dance performance, and theatre production for grandchild Ev Brice in Summerville SC and later in DE. She also enjoyed spending time with Kelly Smith Eisenhard, who was a beloved chosen daughter to her when she lived in Lakeland, FL. She loved playing Bridge and Scrabble, collecting frogs, reading mystery novels, and watching "Dancing With the Stars."
Gayle is survived by son, Jim Brice (Pam), grandchild Ev Brice, former husband, Don Brice, sister Carole Howell (Tim), nephew Daniel Howell, niece Hannah Thames (Justin), and grand nephew Sutton Thames. She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Margaret Garrett.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for March 21, 2026 at 11am at Dorchester Presbyterian Church, 10290 Dorchester Road in Summerville SC.
