Bonnie Pollard Obituary

Bonnie Lee Pollard
November 18, 1945 - July 29, 2024
Bonnie Lee (Steubing) Pollard entered into heaven on July 29, 2024 at the age of 78. Bonnie was born to Raymond and Bernice Steubing on November 18, 1945 in San Antonio, TX and grew up on the dairy farm owned by her grandparents, Mama Tea and Daddy Joe Bacon. Her parents were also dairy farmers, as were many of her aunts, uncles and cousins with dairies spread throughout northwest San Antonio, Leon Valley and Helotes. She lived most of her life on the family farm at the corner of De Zavala, almost 70 years before moving to Boerne. Bonnie was a graduate of John Marshall High School where she was also a cheerleader. After high school, she married James A. Pollard III, and they celebrated nearly 48 years of marriage before his passing in 2015.

Bonnie loved baseball and when she was younger, she would serve as a catcher for her brother Garnet. She also helped teach both her son and grandson to hit a baseball in their younger years.
Family was important to Bonnie, and she was very close to her nearly 30 cousins and aunts and uncles. She enjoyed many memories at Braun's Hall when thinking about family events because a restaurant or someone's home just wouldn't hold them all. Bonnie was a homemaker and worked at Jefferson State Bank and several companies as an administrative assistant before leaving the workforce to become the primary caregiver to her mother in the later stages of her life.

In addition to her family, Bonnie loved getting together with her friends, watching Texas Rangers and Astros baseball, Spurs basketball, and Texas A&M football, going gambling in Las Vegas and Coushatta, the beach, her monthly bunco group, was an avid reader and crossword solver. She also loved attending her grandson's football and baseball games and was his biggest fan. Bonnie was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She exemplified kindness, grace, love and selflessness in every way. All who knew her loved her, she truly had a heart of gold.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, James A. Pollard III, her mother and father, Bernice and Raymond Steubing and mother and father-in-law, James and Earne (Tootie) Pollard. She is survived by her son, Gregory Pollard (Heather) of Fair Oaks Ranch, grandson, Raymond Cade Pollard of Aransas Pass; brother, Garnet Steubing (Kenda); Niece, Kelli Steen (Kevin), Nephew, Kole Steubing (Amy), great nephews, Kody Steen, Konner Steen and Jack Steubing, great nieces, Kate Steubing and Ella Steubing

Special thanks to Kay Kennedy, Ida Aketch, and the Morningside at Menger Springs Memory Care Unit staff for their incredible care and love provided to Bonnie during the later years of her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or Cure Alzheimer's Fund (curealz.org).
