Welthy Senn Obituary
Welthy Verdin Senn, wife of the late Clarence Jerome Senn, was called home to her Lord on February 6, 2026, shortly after celebrating her 100th birthday. Welthy was born on November 21, 1925, to Annie McAbee Verdin and Daniel Byron Verdin. She was a loving and devoted sister to her twin, Wilma Cagle; her older sister, Vera Lane Griffin; and her baby brother, Byron Verdin, Jr.
The siblings grew up in what was then the very rural Five Forks community. One of their favorite childhood memories was roller skating or riding their one shared bicycle down Woodruff Road.
Welthy and her sisters shared a deep passion for music and all attended Winthrop College, where they pursued degrees in music. They loved singing together as a family and participated in various choral groups and church choirs throughout their lives. Welthy and her sisters were recognized for many years of participation in the Greenville Civic Chorale.
Welthy was also blessed with a remarkable artistic gift, which she expressed through painting, needlework, gardening, and flower arranging. Both her musical and artistic talents were joyfully offered in service to the Lord through her church.
Welthy was widowed in 1982 after 37 cherished years of marriage to Jerome. She is survived by their five children: Harriet "Happy" Blakely (Lawrence), Rebecca Hamby (Bob), Byron Edward Senn (Becky), Frances Roetman (John, deceased), and C. Jerome Senn Jr. (Gail).
She was also the proud grandmother of thirteen grandchildren: Anne Sciarrone and Willis Blakely; Heather Edmiston, Rob Hamby, and Brian Hamby; Karen Vollnoegle and Andrew Senn; Jack Roetman and Audrey Smith; and Becca Sakada, Caroline Anders, Trey Senn, and William Senn. In addition, Welthy was blessed with 34 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her twin sister, Wilma Verdin Cagle, and brother, Dr. D. Byron Verdin, Jr. (Eloise), and was predeceased by her sister, Vera Verdin Griffin.
Though her memory faded in later years, her heart never faltered in its love for family, music, and the wonder found in life's precious and ordinary moments.
The family is deeply grateful for the love shown to Welthy and her twin sister by the devoted ladies of the Koinonia Ministry of Second Presbyterian Church. During the years they were homebound, these faithful women visited weekly, and the church lovingly delivered a meal by Larry Pitts to their home every Wednesday evening.
The exceptional care provided by Rozena Boyce, Hattie Pitts, Teia Boyce, Gwen Hatton, Chelsea Brown, and Hattie Chapman enabled Welthy and her twin, Wilma, to remain together in Welthy's home until the end. These dear caregivers brought sunshine into their home, sharing the love of Jesus with them every day.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 105 River St., Greenville, S.C., 29601 or Pointe Hope Presbyterian Church, 1951 Clements Ferry Road, Suite 200, Charleston S.C., 29492
After reaching the remarkable milestone of 100 years, Welthy and her twin received much unexpected attention. They were featured in Augusta Neighbors magazine and on NBCs Today Show. Their story can be found here: These 100-Year-Old Twins Still Live Together: See Them Now
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Second Presbyterian Church, 105 River St., Greenville, S.C., 29601. Visitation will follow the service.
