Victoria Willoughby Obituary
Victoria "Vickie" Irene Buzanis Willoughby, 80, beloved wife of the late Harry Neal Willoughby, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on August 20, 2025, at National Health Care in Greenville, South Carolina.
A longtime resident of Indianapolis and Boggstown, Indiana, and Athens, Alabama, Vickie was born on August 30, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Constantine Buzanis (owner of The Pot and Pan and Mr. B's Supper Club) and Inez Rankin Buzanis.
She graduated from Reidland High School in Reidland, Kentucky, in 1962 and, just days later, married the love of her life, Harry, on May 24, in Paducah, KY. Together they built a loving home, moving to Indianapolis and later settling in Boggstown in 1978, where they raised their three sons.
Vickie's Christian faith was her guiding light. She was a devoted member of Windsor Village Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Beacon Baptist Church in Shelbyville, IN and First Baptist Church in Athens.
She trained as both a medical assistant and a cosmetologist, working at Heritage House Convalescent Center in Shelbyville and at the Indiana State House in Indianapolis.
Vickie was an avid sports fan, especially of football and basketball. She loved Elvis Presley and cherished the Christmas season, especially anything to do with Santa Claus. She also enjoyed puzzles, painting, trivia, traveling, ethnic foods, and watching game shows.
At the heart of her life was her family. She was always ready to comfort those in need, offer wise advice, and share stories that brought joy and laughter. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her loved ones, and she will be remembered as a woman of deep faith, unwavering love, and strong family values. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Vickie is survived by her sons Rodney (Lee), Ronnie (Barbara), and Thomas (Stacy); her brother, Arnett Willoughby; her sister, Creo Christian; ten nieces and nephews; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Layla, who was her faithful companion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, stepfather, stepmother, brother Connie Edgar, two nieces, a nephew, and a grandson.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, South Carolina.
