Susan Johnson Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Whiteside Johnson, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on October 24, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on July 24, 1956, in Greenville, SC, Susan touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
Susan was a dedicated professional in the field of consulting engineering, where she worked as a Project Controls Specialist at Jacobs Engineering, a place where she met her loving husband, William "Bill" Johnson. United in marriage for 11 years and companions for 16, their bond was a testament to love and partnership.
Susan thrived in her career while also nurturing her profound passions. She found joy in gardening and reading, often losing herself in the beauty of nature and the pages of her favorite books. Susan was deeply devoted to her faith, having been a cherished member of Mauldin Methodist Church for over 60 years, where she was raised and actively participated in church life. She also attended First Baptist Simpsonville with her husband, enriching her spiritual journey alongside him.
Susan had a profound appreciation for the mountains, often vacationing in Boone multiple times a year, where she reveled in the breathtaking views and cherished moments with family. She also discovered a sense of freedom and adventure while riding motorcycles, adding another layer to her vibrant life story.
Susan's love for family was unparalleled. In addition to her devoted husband, she is survived by her daughter, Amanda Reininger (Jeff); granddaughter, Jenna Reininger; brother, James Whiteside; father-in-law, Francis Johnson (Ella); Bill's children, William Johnson (Kara), Lauren Johnson Thompson (Will), and Joshua Johnson (Arianna); as well as nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Each family member will forever hold her memory dear in their hearts. She was preceded in death by her father, James Duran; and mother, Annie Jean Whiteside.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 1:15 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Mauldin Methodist Church with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with burial in Mauldin Methodist Church Cemetery.
