Susan Hamby Obituary

Obituary of Susan Hamby Susan Emily McKinney Hamby, 93, widow of Ralph Clifford Hamby, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 8, 2025. Born in Simpsonville, she was the daughter of the late William Harold McKinney and Sadie Louise Smith McKinney. Susan enjoyed reading and working in her yard. She was a lifelong member of Clear Spring Baptist Church and was dedicated to her church family. Most of all, Susan loved her family and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. She set the example of a life of faith and her grandchildren knew their Mema prayed for them daily. Susan is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Reece and Suzanne Knight (Ken); eight grandchildren, Sarah Ann Oesterling (Craig), Michael Reece (Alana), Abel Knight, Joel Knight (Katherine), Anna Castleberry (Drew), Luke Knight, Seth Knight (Molly), and Ruth Tucker (Grant); thirteen great grandchildren, Carter & Harrison Oesterling; Nolan, Oliver, & Adalyne Reece, Jordan, Josiah, & McKinney Knight, Eden & Micah Castleberry, and Rafe, Melrose, & Cypress Knight; and a brother Tommy McKinney. In addition to her husband and parents, Susan was predeceased by step-mother, Lillian Burns McKinney; brother, Dan McKinney; and son-in-law, Randy Reece. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Clear Spring Baptist Church beginning at 2:00 pm. A celebration of life will follow at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Susan's memory to Clear Spring Baptist Church, 301 Bethany Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681.
