Sherry Downes Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sherry D. Downes, 75, of Greer, SC, formerly of Grove City and Knox, PA areas. She entered into eternity with the Lord, as she was resting peacefully at the home of her daughter, on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Sherry was born in Oil City, PA on February 25, 1950, to the late Clair H. and Claire J. (Gwenn) Flinspach.
She had attended and graduated from Saegertown High School in 1968 in Saegertown, PA.
Early in Sherry's life she worked at the Crawford County Home. Later, she went on to cosmetology school and got her cosmetology license. She worked at Polk Center in Polk, PA as a Resident Service Aid from which she retired from.
Sherry loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her face would light up as soon as she saw her grandchildren, who gave her, her favorite title, Mamaw. She enjoyed spending time at big family events when the entire family would come together. Sherry loved being in the kitchen making delicious meals, her famous hot mustard, fabulous cookies and sweet treats. She loved making enough food for everyone, her family would joke that she was incapable of making food for just one person or two. In her younger days, Sherry enjoyed canning food for the family as well. In nice weather, she could be found outside on her porch, she loved being outside, where she would entertain her company, watch the birds and enjoy her plants. She enjoyed watching fireworks, going to listen to bands that played in the community and watching the Christmas Parade in Greer. Her two favorite holidays were Christmas and Halloween; she loved decorating her home for them. Sherry enjoyed watching a good movie, especially with her grandkids. When she was able to, she loved going to yard sales and flea markets with her family. She was always looking for a good bargain. Sherry enjoyed crafting, but the main one she loved was making and painting ceramics. She was a card shark, you had to watch her closely when playing a good game of rummy with her, somehow, she was always the winner.
Leaving behind in her legacy are her two children: Terri A. Correll and her husband Hunter of Greer, SC and Scott D. Burns and his wife Kylee of Knox, PA; Grandchildren: Kayla Whitmer of Lyman, SC, Brandon Whitmer and his wife Cinthya of Lyman, SC, Tyler and Conner Burns of Knox, PA and Kaden, Kolten and Camden Ensminger of Knox, PA; Great Granddaughters: Natalia and Sofia Whitmer of Lyman, SC; Siblings: Dennis Houser of Oil City, PA, Douglas Flinspach of Warren, PA, Barry Flinspach of Meadville, PA, Richard Hartzell of Barkeyville, PA, Ben Flinspach of Oil City, Clarissa Flinspach of Bloomington, IN, Brad Flinspach of Oil City, PA, and Rome Flinspach of Oil City, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
