Sherman Windsor Obituary

Sherman "Boom Boom" Ray Windsor, Jr. was born on March 14, 1932, to Mattie Lee Burke Windsor and Sherman Ray Windsor, Sr. in Washington, DC. Sherman lived much of his life in Maryland and worked many years in the flooring business. He moved to Greenville, South Carolina in 1971 for a job opportunity and remained there until his death. In his retirement years he worked Sundays at the family business, Upstate Dog Training, and would love to show newcomers around the pet resort. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed all sports and was a "natural" athlete, playing well at many sports. Sherman especially loved baseball. He played on a "farm team" and was once recruited to play with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Being the family man he was, he turned it down so he would not have to spend time away from his family. Sherman will be remembered as someone who loved his family and friends, had a great sense of humor, and had the ability to make people laugh. He never met a stranger wherever he would go and made numerous friends throughout his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family. Surviving are his children, Valorie Ruck (Gene), April Ludwig (Matt), Brad Windsor (Sherri), Bruce Windsor (Heather), and Lisa Weaver (Tim). Sherman leaves behind fourteen grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren. Mr. Windsor was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Dolores Williams Windsor; a daughter, Jill Jones (Jimmy); and a grandchild. There will be a celebration of life at Lake Robinson, 2655 Mays Bridge Road, Greer, South Carolina 29651 at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, Maryland 21741. Online condolences may be made to www.thewoodmortuary.com.
