Robert Owens Obituary

Robert "Bob" Ansel Owens, 77, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
Bob was born in Keyser, WV, the son of the late Ansel C and Vivian V Owens, and was one of six children. Raised in Greenville, SC, he was a graduate of The University of South Carolina. He served in the National Guard and had a longstanding career as the Nationwide Agent for Simpsonville, SC.
A devoted husband and father, Bob was very active with his children and within his community over his years, including: basketball and baseball coach, SAIL officiating, Boy Scouts of America, YMCA youth organizations, Kiwanis club, and Rotary club, among others. He was dedicated to two church communities throughout his adult life where he attended regularly, worshiped the Lord, and shared his devotion to the Word of God. While attending Grace Covenant Presbyterian, he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and helped with ancillary Church projects. At Simpsonville United Methodist, he served as usher, sang in the choir, and assisted his wife Elaine on her many wonderful musicals.
A lifelong Gamecock fan, he enjoyed spending time with his family, beach trips to Edisto, watching Carolina football games, the low country and coast, reading, music, and his Shag dancing was known to cut a rug with the best of them. Bob will be remembered for his gentle soul, kind heart, and wholesomeness that put anyone at ease who spoke with him.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years, Elaine Fowler Owens; his three children, Laurel Latta (Jason) of Cumming, GA, Drew Owens of Nashville, TN, and Eric Fowler of Greenville; and his three grandchildren, James Latta, Avery Latta, and Wyatt Owens. He is also survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jenny and Steve Price of Batesburg-Leesville, Susan and Marett Cobb of Houston, TX, and Diane and Roy Roaden of The Villages, FL; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Lee Owens of Spartanburg and Rev. Ken and Maria Owens of Blythewood, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews that he loved so dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Owens; and one son, Jeffrey Fowler.
A visitation will be held Friday, October 17, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at The Methodist Church of Simpsonville followed by the Funeral Service at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in Cannon-Byrd Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made in Bob's honor to the Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Road, Greenville, SC 29607 or The Center for Developmental Services.
