Olive McCord Obituary

Mrs. Olive Worth McCord, 90, of 400 Trinity Way, passed on Monday, July 7, 2025, at her home. She was born in Raleigh, NC on February 8, 1935, to Candace Olive (Pittman) Worth and David Crenshaw Worth and was raised on the family dairy farm in Raleigh. Mrs. McCord attended Needham B. Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC, and earned a BA in Chemistry from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, VA. Upon graduation from college, she became a chemist at DuPont where she met and married her Canadian husband, Donald McCord. They lived in several locations on the eastern seaboard in the USA and in Montreal, Canada to pursue career opportunities for Donald. As a result from the transitions to new locations, Olive developed a diverse range of professional skills beyond chemistry and was a teacher at North Greenville University for GED degrees, a tax return professional, a travel manager coordinator, as well as a contract floral designer and was an accredited Master Flower Show Judge. Olive was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, SC, where she served as a deacon and was a ruling elder. Throughout her 57 years at this church, she was an active member who enjoyed singing in the choir and was on multiple committees to enrich the work of the church particularly in the kindergarten and activities ministries. She was an avid traveler and especially enjoyed trips with her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed being a member of the Clarice Wilson Garden Club, Greenville Garden Club, Ex Libris Book Club, Greenville Wine Society, and was an original member of the "Hotsy Totsy" Bridge Club, as well as being associated with the St. Andrew's Society. She is survived by her eldest son, Robert Worth McCord of Greenville, SC; her daughter, Dianne (Jeanette) McCord Maughon of Houston, TX; her two daughters in law, Beverly Ann McCord and Robin Berry McCord; her son in law, Bob Robinson Maughon, Jr.; six grandchildren, Kathleen (Elizabeth) McCord Jenkins, Michelle Lauren McCord, Brittany Erin McCord, Cory David McCord, Andrew Robinson Maughon, and Lauren McCord Maughon; and one great grandchild, Wyatt Robert Jenkins. In addition to her parents, Olive was preceded in death by her husband, Donald McLaren McCord; her brother, David Crenshaw Worth, Jr.; and her youngest son, David Donald McCord. An intimate graveside service will be held for immediate family in Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Olive's honor to either: Miracle Hill Ministries, P.O. Box 2546, Greenville, SC 29602, Attn: Kim Matthews, or to the Greenville Council of Garden Clubs, Attn: Treasurer (Roberta Tabb), 560 N. Academy Drive, Greenville, SC 29601.
